ArcGIS for Geoscientists

GSI now offers a comprehensive two-day class specifically for the geoscientist needing to take full advantage of the analytical capabilities of ESRI’s ArcGIS 9 Spatial Analyst and 3D Analyst extensions. The course materials provide instruction and exercises applying ArcGIS technology to everyday exploration and production analysis situations. Students should have a basic understanding of ArcGIS software before registering for the course.
GSI can accommodate up to twelve students at a time in our training facility in Houston, or instructors can be made available to deliver the materials onsite at your facilities. The teaching method introduces the material and basic concepts in a PowerPoint presentation followed by live demonstrations in ArcGIS. Students then work on structured exercises oil & gas industry well data and both 2D and 3D seismic data to cement the learning process. For a fee, GSI can substitute your specific data for the standard data provided with the course exercises. A professional spiral-bound training manual with copies of all PowerPoint slides and written exercises is provided to each student. In addition, all exercises, required data and PowerPoint slides are provided on CD or DVD.

Introduction to ArcGIS I (for Versions 8.x & 9.x)
This new two-day course introduces students to ArcGIS and provides the foundation for becoming a successful ArcView, ArcEditor, or ArcInfo user. Participants learn how to use ArcMap, ArcCatalog, and ArcToolbox and explore how these applications work together to provide a complete GIS software solution. The course covers fundamental GIS concepts as well as how to create, edit, and georeference spatial data. Attendees learn how to manipulate tabular data, query a GIS database, and present data clearly and efficiently using maps, charts, and reports. This course includes the functionality available in both ArcGIS 8.x and ArcGIS 9.x.
Introduction to ArcGIS II (for Versions 8.x & 9.x)
This three-day course follows Introduction to ArcGIS I (for ArcView 8, ArcEditor 8, and ArcInfo 8) and continues to present important concepts and functionality for successfully working with ArcGIS. With further exploration of ArcMap, ArcCatalog, and ArcToolbox, students focus on spatial analysis, automation of spatial and attribute data, editing, and advanced options for cartographic display and reports. Hands-on exercises teach ArcGIS procedures in the context of solving real-world problems. Examples and exercises use data from a variety of application areas. A portion of the class is reserved for carrying out an analysis project and applying many of the new skills and techniques learned in this course. Students conduct queries, perform spatial analysis, and present their results in a hard-copy maps, charts, and reports. This course includes the functionality available in both ArcGIS 8.x and ArcGIS 9.x.
LandWorks Property Management
Configuration
In this half-day course, LandWorks Property Management administrators learn the many complex configuration options available in LPM. After completing this class, users will be able to configure LPM to meet specific their business needs. Some configuration options covered in this course include: Financial options, Document Viewing options, GIS options, and Ownership Recording options.
Data Administration and Reporting
This one-day course provides an introduction to the data administration abilities available in LandWorks Property Management. Participants learn how to create and maintain agreement, owner, and project operations, and how to best use LPM fields to capture their company’s most important data. Additionally, users become familiar with how to run all reports available in LPM.
GIS Functions
A one-day course, LandWorks Property Management – GIS Functions is a comprehensive overview of the GIS functionality available in this mapping support database. Students will learn how to use the AutoMapper, Spatializer, Mapping Status Codes, and Mapping Status Reports to help automate most map maintenance functions, making it easy to keep maps current. Class participants learn how to use the front-end LPM windows and how to automatically map polygons or create shapefiles from the LPM data. LPM SDE functionality is covered during the afternoon half of the class.
Financial Functions
This new one-day course introduces users to the complex financial functions built into LandWorks Property Management. Students are instructed in the creation of payments and receivables tied to specific agreements. Students also learn the processing of payments and receivables and the finance related reporting functionality available in LPM.
LandScape GIS - Parcel Edit Tools
Learn the ease of mapping with the LandWorks' Parcel Edit Tools. Specifically designed to meet the needs of GIS professionals in mapping land legal description and parcel boundaries, the Parcel Edit Tools can drastically reduce the amount of time it takes to map leases, deeds, rights of way, easements and other property rights. You will also learn tricks for mapping more accurately and efficiently using these tools. Classes are available for both the ArcView 3.x and ArcGIS 8.x versions of the Parcel Edit Tools.
LandScape GIS - Landman's Toolbox/QuikMap
In this half-day course, learn how to analyze lease and ownership data using the Landman’s Toolbox and how to create presentation quality maps in seconds. Developed specifically for quick and easy analysis of lease rights and ownership by landmen, engineers and explorationists, the Landman’s Toolbox can quickly produce results that previously took hours to compile. Learn how to perform complex analysis with the click of a button. Find out how the Toolbox can analyze company ownership in any depth of formation interval, expiration dates, and company and competitor mineral interests with out a lot of fuss. You will also learn how to create land-related reports and exhibits directly from ArcView.
